About

I have always been interested in contributing to the ongoing local and global efforts to prevent and reduce many forms of oppressions or 鈥榠sms鈥 including racism, colorism, sexism, ageism, ableism, neo-liberalism and capitalism. In teaching, research, and advocacy, I focus on the problems facing the impoverished, exploited, discriminated, marginalized, and disenfranchised segments of societies.

My areas of teaching and research specialization include globalization and sustainable development, social justice and human rights, social stratification and poverty, race and ethnicity,聽gender and sexuality and the logic and ethics of social research.

I have taught a number of courses including introduction to sociology, social problems, the sociology of development, the sociology of gender, the sociology of deviance, the sociology of race and ethnicity, the sociology of human rights, social justice, and social research methods. Currently, I am teaching social processes, social issues and the sociology of globalization.

I am skilled in the use of qualitative and quantitative methods and possess expertise in the use of ethnographic methods, which allow聽specific critical voices to be heard. Theoretically, my research projects have been informed by post-structuralist, neo-Marxist, feminist, and anti-colonial perspectives.

I have published more than half a dozen peer-reviewed articles, several conference papers and a book under the title the聽Microfinance Mirage Published by Routledge: Taylor and Francis Group, available at
