Many of your courses will include required or recommended textbooks. It is important that textbooks and other printed material is accessible to you. We can help you explore what accessibility is important to you and help you get accessible versions of your textbooks.
To find your Personal Booklist, Go to , select Student Records, then select View Personal Booklist.
Some accessible options include
- Open Educational Resources
- Check to see if any of your courses use . These online (or print yourself) textbooks are free and include built in accessibility features.
- E-textbooks
- Many textbooks are available to purchase in electronic format. E-textbooks can be used with programs, such as Kurzweil or Read & Write, to provide audio accessibility as well as visual tools that may help you recall and retain information from your texts.
- CAPER Requests
- The Center for Accessible Post-Secondary Educational Resources (CAPER) provides alternate formats of books and materials for post-secondary students in BC. When OERs and e-textbooks are not available, or if you have additional accessibility needs, Accessibility Services will facilitate your requests for resources from CAPER BC.
- Caper requests take 5-10 business days to complete. Please contact AlternateFormatText@douglascollege.ca as early as possible with your request.
- Receiving alternate formats of textbooks require you to purchase the textbook. Why do I need to purchase the textbook?
